While I can see the benefits of using Twitter as a distance education tool, I believe it is simply another technology used to avoid face-to-face communication. In a high-school classroom, where a major goal of teachers is to prepare their students for the "real world", I believe young people need MORE rather than LESS personal interaction. Students need to overcome their fears of voicing their opinions to their classmates. Plus, I feel that Twitter is capable of less than other social networking sites, therefore I feel that it is obsolete. I think actual discussion in the classroom is much more valuable. Sorry Twitter!

I see the merits in you point of view; what I thought interesting is what if someone else were to use your students blog space? How would one really know who was posting on the blog? Interesting, and I like you blog, it's very informative.
ReplyDeleteI brought up the same point about Twitter causing less face-to-face interaction with students, which I think is a serious concern. I think Twitter can be effective and I'm open to using it, but I also agree with a lot of your points here. I can't make up my mind.
ReplyDeleteI agree that it's really important for students to get that real world interaction. Not only to help them learn Social Studies - you can't tweet your boss your opinion, not in most workplaces anyways!
